Am I the Baddy?

I just waged war on a fanatic purifier. Took three planets in about 20 systems. Didn’t notice they didn’t have any planetside food production until I was holding my fleets at my desired choke point hyperlane. I was getting a ton of monthly energy credits from these three planets too, but I was bleeding consumer goods and food fast. Turns out it was probably this purifier’s energy sector. I set their species rights to bare minimum for living quality, nutrition, and emigration. Then I built a couple hydro farms on each planet, but I set the technician jobs to favourite. I wasn’t in the negatives for food anymore and just barreling bleeding consumer goods, though. So I’m making about 150 monthly energy from these planets for a while. About 30,000 total energy creds I estimate because I was able to terraform 5 planets on my side of the galaxy. I’m playing tall, so I’m going to give these systems to my neighbor. My main reason for declaring war was to put another empire between myself and this purifier, so I’m happy to give it away. I get what alloys I can in the trade deals for these systems and I start building my colony ships for those planets I terraformed using these alloys. Then I realize the optics of the whole situation.

I just invaded, exploited, then sold these planets and used the energy credits and alloys I made to settle a few planets just for me. I think I’m the baddie.
